In Memory of Shirley Sarachek

I had a awful  shock today.  I read in my Great Neck Retirement paper that my friend Shirley Sarachek had died.  I had been trying to reach her and had left numerous messages on her answering machine, one as recently as yesterday. We had seen each other in late December for lunch. She was planning a trip to Mexico with her daughter Maggie, her son-in-law Paul and her beloved grandson Julie.  I presumed that she was there with them at this time. I kept trying anyway hoping she'd be home one fo these days.

An obituary in the The New York Times of January 20th does not give the day she died or under what circumstances.  I have contacted a mutual friend to try to find out what she knows about this. Did not hear back yet.

Shirley was a dedicated and loyal friend who was always available to commiserate with and could be depended upon to be caring and supportive.

What I learned from this is that life has to be cherished without getting tangled up in trivialities.  I will be compiling a list of persons to be notified when I die and leave this with my heirs.

Goodbye Shirley, my friend.
