Trying to Make a Difference

My friend and I went to Philadelphia, PA yesterday through today. We joined the Election Protection Coalition, a non partisan group whose goal was simply to make sure that everyone who wanted to vote was not impeded. We had a training session last night which was attended by over 500 people. Many more than were expected. Many participants were lawyers and others were Spanish speaking. They were from many parts of the country.

We were to be present at the polls today to note any irregularities and dificulties voters might have. When we found some problems we could try to intercede or call a hotline for professional assistance. There were so many volunteers that assignments were only for 1/2 day. At the calmer precincts EPC members had little to do. So Edie and I began canvassing the area. We walked down Girard Street and spoke with everyone we encountered urging them to vote. The weather was great and everyone was very encouraging and friendly.
