Back to Idling
In my small way I try to make a difference. Really I have to keep busy and moving to cope with disappointments. So at least I try to do it constructively.
Yesterday on my way to Yoga I noticed a large dump truck with it's engine running unattended in Old Brookville, LI. A policeman was on the site and I asked him about the legallity of this. He said it was legal, did not polute the air and did not waste fuel.
So I went to work on the internet. And found the applicable rules and regulations issued by NYS Department of Environmental Conservation. And indeed it is illegal for a "heavy duty vehicle to idle for more than five consecutive minutes when the heavy duty vehicle is not in motion."
I was expecting to have to write Old Brookville snail mail. But on their site they had a "contact us" link and within a few minutes I voiced my concern. Isn't the internet wonderful. Let's see what happens.
