Marching for Peace in NY
I went to the march sponsored by United for Peace and Justice this morning. This was a anit Bush demonstration in anticipation of the RNC being held in NYC starting tomorrow.. The crowd was very large filling 7th Avenue wall to wall. It was very peaceful and police and participants were very congenial with each other. I also noted that there was no debris under foot. People were being careful to be considerate of the city hosting both the RNC and this protest demonstration. To see some pictures I took of the event go to <photos.yahoo.com/leonspix> and click on the March-8/29 album.
Afterwards I went to a memorial service of an old friend, Maureen Gaynor who died in May, 2004. She and I were good friends and actively involved in trying to integrate two schools in Jackson Heights, NY in the mid 60's. There were numerous activists and disgruntled Democrats in the group. We had a chance to support each other in our goal to defeat Bush. It was a fitting end to to moving day.
