The Idling Continues

In this city of New York I have contacted the Department of Transportation, Department of Environmental Protection of NY as well as the Metropolitan Transit Authority, ( MTA) to try to stop the idling of busses at layovers and in terminal locations. I got an e-mail back from the DOT stating that they have no jurisdiction over MTA property, the terminals. I wrote back that busses are also idling at layovers in the streets of Flushing, at least. I went back to downtown Flushing today to check if anything has changed. I spoke with one of the idling drivers who was outside his bus smoking and speaking on the phone. I told him about the regulation for busses put out by the NYC Department of Finance entitled Parking, Standing & Stopping Rules P-2 that prohibits idling of busses unless it is to release air brakes and then only for 3 minutes. He ignored my comment and did not shut his bus down. Tomorrow I write to Mayor Bloomberg.
