50 Years After Brown
The NY Times has been recognizing the 50th anniversary of Brown vs. Board of Education which was supposed to outlaw segregation in the school of the USA. I have always wondered about the success of this Supreme Court ruling. Especially when I worked in Bedford Stuyvesant, Brooklyn from 1996 to 2003. There is no integration there. The schools, both private and public are entirely segregated, only black and Hispanic children attend. The schools and neighborhood are very poor. They aren't even separate but equal. They are separate and unequal, deficient and decrepit, 50 years later.
