Last night I attended my first local meeting sponsored by Environmental Defense. Thirty five or so people were there. Several issues were promoted. The Day After Tomorrow is opening this weekend and it is believed it will have great impact upon public opinion toward the need to address the issue of climate change (formerly known as global warming). The organization will be petitioning outside theatres to get public support for the Climate Stewardship Act sponsored by McCain and Lieberman which is going through the congress at this time. A vote on this vital bill is expected in late June. Environmental Defense is targeting with advertising five states in which senators voted down the original bill but could perhaps be swayed to change their vote. They are Louisiana, Pennsylvania. Tennessee, Arkansas and Ohio. If you know anyone in these states please ask them to write to their senators in support of this bill, S139.
